“Wesley and Rob are fighting again,” David said.
“That’s nothing new, but I believe I have a solution to this particular kind of argument,” Carolyn remarked.
“Rob, Wesley, your mom wants to talk to you.”
“I know there is only one piece of cake, but you will just have to share it.”
“But, mom, Rob usually gets the biggest piece!”
“Not this time because one of you will cut the piece of cake in two pieces and the one who cuts, must let the other one choose his piece first.”

Yes, it probably will. It may be a real challenge to get it cut just right so neither of them will be cheated by ending up with the smaller piece. 🙂

That was the practice for my brother and I 70 years ago. Neither wanted to cut even though I thought I was fairest but suspected he still may have got the bigger piece!

Children do have an inherent sense that things should be fair, don’t they? One cuts, one picks generally works.

Yes, and they are all alike. A little extra of something means a great deal to them.

Another great trick for squabbling kids… put them together in a large adult t-shirt or buttonup shirt. They will end up laughing so hard that any fussing will soon be forgotten. 🙂
