Summer Hill Vacation

“Kaden, I smell smoke, ” Allison said as she woke from a nap.

“Yes, it is smoke!  There is a fire down in the valley and the wind is blowing in this direction.  We need to leave immediately or we might get trapped up here.”

“Oh my gosh!  Look at that, it’s huge and so close.  Can we make it down in time?”

“Look out, Kaden!  That tree is falling!”

“We can go down the other way.”

“What’s that Kaden?”

“I think it’s a flat tire. We have to go the rest of the way by foot.”

“I can’t stop coughing she said,”  as Kaden caught her before she fell.

They looked up and saw a truck pull up beside them and a man told them to get in.

Reaching the bottom of the mountain to safety they looked in horror as the fire continued to spread in the other direction when the wind changed.

  1. Large forest fires are so hard to image if you have no experience of them. But your story made me think and feel for Kaden and Allison.
