Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers

Week of 07-05 through 07-11-2016

This week’s photo prompt is provided by Yinglan. Thank you Yinglan!

“Alan I see you have new neighbors since I was here last year,” Frank said.

“Yes, but Holly and I rarely see them.  The dogs are always outside, but we only see the guys as they come and go. They speak when we see them and seem nice. “

“Well, at least they don’t cause any problems.”

“That’s true.”

Alan was in his backyard one night and noticed a light on in the neighbor’s garage.  He was surprised at the things he saw through a small window!

The next morning just at daybreak,  FBI agents surrounded his neighbor’s house.

They arrested them after finding their garage full of guns, explosives, and several passports.

Alan knew something was wrong and decided it best to alert the authorities about the things he saw in the neighbor’s garage.

(Moral to this story:   If you see something suspicious, say something. It could save a life or lives. )

    • Yes, and unfortunately it somewhat puts the burden on us because we must make the determination if it is really a valid concern that needs to be reported to the authorities. If it is and we do not report it….how will we feel if something bad happens?

  1. Seeing a garage full of guns and explosives certainly is a reason to call the authorities! You are right, we have to be vigilant in this day and age and report this kind of stuff. Great story, Jessie!

    • Thank you, Joy. It pains me that this type of thing is happening in our world and we must always be alert. It is such a difficult thing to deal with when in some instances like this one we have to stumble into some evidence and report it for our safety and others.

  2. Great storie Jessie. No one thinks they’ll have neighbours like that, but I suppose someone ends up with them. Glad your main character called the police, better to call and ask questions later. I’m sad for their poor dogs, who will probably end up in a shelter.

  3. Right! Someone ends up being the neighbor. Thankfully, in this case they stumbled into something they felt should be reported. I can only imagine the shock the other neighbors experienced when finding out what kind of people were living near them. Thank you for your comments. 😊
