CLOSE ENCOUNTER

Little Toby wandered aimlessly in the field with his head lowered and tears trickling down his chubby cheeks as he pulled his wagon with his dog, Chip in it.

“Why are you sad?” the scarecrow asked.

“Because I need the power of life for my dog, Chip.”

“What happened to him?”

“He was bite by a snake. He will die and I do not know how to save him.”

“I will help you!” the scarecrow said proudly.  “I have a brain! “

Pull the green vine away from me and wrap it around Chip’s body.  It will help draw the poison from him.

Toby quickly did as the scarecrow said.

Hours later, the scarecrow saw Toby and Chip happily playing in the corn field.

  1. Awe, it’s an interesting play on the wizard of oz. happy the scarecrow had a brain and could help the boy’s dog live. That would have been devestating for him otherwise. Great write Jessie.

  2. Thank you, Mandi ! The part about the vine is true…. my mother-in-law put a vine (can’t recall what kind) around the neck of one of their dog’s that had been bitten by a snake and the dog looked close to death, but the next day he was up running around like nothing happened.
