Neither Are Looking
“Hello! My name is Evan.”
“I’m Bernice, it’s nice to meet you. I’m new in town and decided to come to the party and meet some of my co-workers.”
“Where did you live before moving here?”
“In the Chicago area.”
“What brought you to this town?”
“I moved to live in a safer place.”
“Oh! So, it was rough where you came from!”
“Yes, you could say that.”
“In what way?”
“In my old neighborhood the most common form of transportation was a stretcher. If you weren’t home by midnight, you were declared dead. There were so many gossips, too. You know, gossips are considered the spies of life! I just needed to move and experience living somewhere else.”
“Do you live by yourself or do you have a boyfriend?”
“No boyfriend now and not looking for one either.”
“What happened, did you have a bad experience with the last one?”
“Well, we were doing fine for a while, but things changed. He said he wanted his paycheck to go further. He took it to Paris! When he came back, he said he needed more space. So, I locked him outside!”
“What about you? Do have a girlfriend?”
“No, not now. I’m not looking for one either.”
“Really! Did you have a bad experience too?”
“No, I’ve been traveling a lot for my work, going from one city to the next for a while and, oh, excuse me I see my co-worker motioning to me. We have some business to discuss, but maybe we can talk a little later.”
“Sure, that will be fine.”
“Alright, I’ll catch up with you later.”
“Mr. Mercer, I see you made it after all.”
“My plans got changed once again, but we will have a little while to finish our discussion. I’m sorry to pull you away from your friend.”
“That’s alright, we just met a few minutes ago and I plan to talk with her later. I enjoyed speaking with her.

Oh! I thought he said she was a co-worker and they had business to discuss. Not only is he flighty but he’s also a liar! Great story, Jessie!

Thank you. Mr. Mercer was a co-worker of Evan..they had to finish a business conversation and that is why Evan left Bernice and told her they would talk later. I believe Evan likes Bernice…even though he is not looking for a girlfriend….things could get to that point given more time with each other.

Indeed! It’s a good thing she moved before she had to use it. 😊 Thank you!
