Challenge…
Don’t go for a whole story. Write just a scene—100 to 200 words—that is full of tension, anxiety, trepidation, and the unknown.

The Mountain Climb
John and Emma were climbing the grueling mountain for a couple of hours.
After resting for a while, they continued to climb and it began to rain. Just as they turned a corner, a large rock fell from above them knocking Emma over the side of the mountain. Her body turned over and over as she went down the mountain side and John stood there helplessly watching her as he yelled her name in agony!
Emma landed on a flat area of the mountain side and John could see that her leg seemed twisted. She lay perfectly still as he called her name over and over.
He tried in vain to use his cell phone to call for help, but there was no reception in that area.
Pulling off his backpack he quickly opened it to get the rope he had brought for emergencies.
While scanning the area for a tree or rock he could tie the rope around he noticed a mountain lion just two ledges above Emma.

Nice open ending. Things don’t look good for Emma. I’m not sure how she could survive the fall but here’s hoping. Great job Jessie 🙂

Thank you! 🙂 It does appear hopeless, but miracles happen every day, maybe she will be one of them.

Thank you! He has some tough decisions to make and must make them quickly. Yes, a gun of some sort would be ideal. Ha! even a flare might help scare the mountain lion away. He doesn’t have too many options!
