Special Friends
“Marcy, why is Ethel acting weird, like she has splinters in the windmills of her mind?” Todd questioned.
” No splinters, Todd, just can’t get herself together since her father died. They were so close and now, she has no one!”
“She does have a brother, but he lives in the Bahamas and she saw him briefly when he came to their father’s funeral six months ago. “
“Why doesn’t she spend some time with him, she has two weeks of vacation coming up?”
“She can’t afford it. There is very little money left from her pay after she pays her rent, utilities and food.”
“I’m having another get-together this Friday night after work. Can you get our group together?” Todd asked.
“Sure, I’ll be happy to.”
Everyone came, but Ethel. She had to work that night.
Each person contributed to a special fund for their friend Ethel so she could spend two weeks with her brother.
Crying with gratefulness, Ethel told them it was the most thoughtful gift she had ever received.

Aw, Ethel’s friends were extremely thoughtful. I’m sure more then anything what she needed after losing her Dad and having to work so hard to pay the bills, was a break and time to spend with her only family, her brother. Makes me believe there are good people in the world. Well written.

I agree. I have found in the past, often my best friends will “do” even before they ask.
