Losing Love
“Hearts, when are we scheduled to leave this city?” Flowers grumbled.
“A few more days won’t hurt, we are a joy to so many and I love it!”
“That’s because you are all heart! I think you enjoy this.”
“I love to see the look on their faces when they first see us,” Hearts laughed.
“Then, why aren’t you laughing now?”
“Because that kid over there just ran by me with a key in his hand.”
“So, big deal!”
“It certainly is a big deal! I have scratches on my side and my hearts are bleeding.”
“Is that so terrible?”
“Yes, I’m starting to hate it here instead of loving it.”

Wow what a rude kid! A kid keyed are new van when I was in elementary school and that’s bad enough but a work of art, I think that’s even more tragic.

Yes, and sometimes you think…where is the teaching from the parent/parents? But, kids will be kids…some are just more destructive than others and have no regard to other people’s property.

Yeah it’s true of all kids actually. I never knew this until I was in my mid-twenties but living at home you take a lot for granted. All the extra things your parents do like cleaning and cooking etc. You don’t really realize that home is “yours” until you put actual work into it and try to clean as well as your Mom does, or put the recycling all out, etc. Ownership puts a lot more value into something. Perhaps, with little kids too, the wouldn’t key their TV or video games because those are theirs.

Very tragic, the vandalism in your story, but it is so true to life. So much beauty destroyed, such as in your story. Of course, it doesn’t stop at vandalism, as we sadly know. Wonderful story, Jessie!

Thank you, Joy! Unfortunately, there will always be people like that…young and old.

There’s something really fun here about using the shapes on the cows as names. It really works as a contrast to the scratches–careless people. Nice story!
