FLASH FICTION FOR THE PURPOSEFUL PRACTIONER Week#7 – 2016
The opening sentence for the February 12th, Flash Fiction for the Purposeful Practitioner: “……. For the thousandth time, I promise you, it wasn’t me!”(Permission for this NOT be the opening sentence, but only a sentence included somewhere in your story….granted.)
THE FLOWER GARDEN
“Toby, this is Mr. Johns with the Brownwood Police Department,” Mr. Turner told his son. “He has a question to ask you about Mrs. Jasmines flower garden.”
“Toby, did you walk through Mrs. Jasmines flower garden with your dog Sam?” Mr. Johns asked.
“No sir! It wasn’t me! I never walked in her flower garden.”
Mr. Johns looked down at Toby and repeated the question.
Toby looked up at Mr. Johns and gave the same answer.
“Toby, Mrs. Jasmine said she saw a boy and a black dog running through her flower garden, not once, but several times during the week,” Mr. Johns said.
“It wasn’t me,” Toby insisted.
“Are you sure, you are telling the truth?”
“For the thousandth time, I promise you it wasn’t me!” Toby said in exasperation.
The phone rang, the call was for Mr. Johns, he answered it, then turned toward Toby and said, “son, I am so sorry to have questioned your answer, I know that you are telling the truth.”
Mrs. Jasmine discovered the new neighbor’s son has a dog just like Sam and they were trampling through her flower garden a few minutes ago.

Poor kid. It’s difficult being a kid and no one believes you just because you’re a kid. I’m glad the truth came out in the end. Great write Jessie 🙂

Thank you, Mandi! I can remember a few times when I was in that same type of situation…and was not believed to have given the right answer.

Grown ups can be very unfair when it comes to accusing children they don’t like. Mrs Jasmine is one of those old women who would always cause problems. Glad it ended well for Toby and Sam. Good story with a happy ending.

Adults are so quick to assume kids are lying. This is a great reminder that things may not always be as we assume!

That’s true and with kids we have a tendency to not give them the benefit of doubt like we would with adults.

“wheew”, for a moment there, I thought Toby was just a convincing liar. But oh the poor kid, how hurtful it feels to be accused falsely.

Yes, kids have a hard time convincing adults sometimes that they are really telling the truth.

Poor Toby. The feeling of being wrongly accused sucks. Hope he will overcome that.
