SIX SENTENCE STORY….December 10, 2015
Cue…Standard
What Goes Around, Comes Around
I went to the driver license bureau to have my license renewed.
After standing in line for twenty minutes, a young man at the counter told me I would have to have a number before he could wait on me.
I told him it took me twenty minutes to get to the counter and I didn’t know I needed a ticket number, but he just smiled and said, “I’m sorry miss, I do not make the rules, I just follow them and it is standard procedure that a customer have a number before I can process their paper work.”
Two weeks later I was working and that same young man came to my desk to pay his property tax, and I told him he needed to have a number before I could process his paper work.
He told me he did not see the number dispenser, and he had waited to see me for over fifteen minutes.
I politely told him that I did not make the rules, I just follow them and it is standard procedure to require customers to have a number before processing any of their paper work.

I agree…if it is possible to override the red tape, if not, your stuck with the hard core rules.

I dunno – they can usually be bent. Something to do with the spirit of the law, rather than the letter of it.

How I would have loved to be in that same situation.

Yes, I think we have all been in a situation on the same order…sometime in our life, and it could turn into revenge instead of just being karma.

excellent! and no, not to be cruel, but as your title reminds us! (it probably won’t change the nature of the bureaucratic mentality, even if he were to see the lesson. Unless, of course, he reveled in the act of turning you away, then he totally got what he deserved.

What goes around comes around needs to stop somewhere. I doubt it will we all like to have the last word.

It isn’t necessarily the last word because unless it directly affects the same person or people that was involved…. the last word doesn’t apply…it can be something done by one person, and later that person will run into a situation that is on the same order, yet not involve the same person or people in the original situation. In my story I used the same two people, but the young man could have run into the same situation and result, even if he had been waited on an entirely different person.
