SUNDAY PHOTO FINISH November 8, 2015

Sunday Photo Fiction is a weekly writing challenge where a photo is used as a prompt for a piece of fiction using around 200 words. The piece doesn’t have to centre around exactly what the photo is, it can be just used as a basis for a story. This week’s photo is from 2014 and is a tree in Autumn (or Fall if you prefer)
THE ARREST
“John! Wake up,” Katie whispered.
“What’s wrong?” John said.
“Someone is knocking on our door.”
“But, it’s only three o’clock in the morning!”
“I know!”
John quickly got out of bed and almost stumbled trying to reach the door. “Who is it?”
“It’s the Fairfax police,” came the reply. John opened the door and one of the policemen flashed his ID at John and he asked, “are you John Smith?”
“Yes,” John replied.
“May we come in?” he said.
John let the policemen in and was immediately handcuffed, told he was under arrest, and read his rights by one of the policemen.
“Why are you arresting me?” John asked.
“For the murder of Alan Frazier,” one of the policemen answered.
“Where do you think I killed this guy?” John asked.
“Under the trees in the Fairfax park,” the policeman replied.
“That’s not true, my wife and I just arrived home three hours ago from a vacation in Europe. You need to check your information again before you falsely arrest me.”
One officer looked at the arrest warrant and found the name on it was John Smith, however, the address was not 112 Fletcher Circle, it was 1112 Fletcher Avenue.
John was released immediately.

I was surprised the police was willing to listen to him. Usually, at least on TV, policemen never listen to people.

H! Ha! Your absolutely right, in this case they were probably so excited that a murderer had been found and they failed to check their paperwork carefully.

No reason to check your facts officers. Yikes

A little too excited about making an arrest to look at the paperwork carefully. 🙂

Strange way of the police to just walk in and arrest John. No wonder he was so relaxed because they were not home or near by. Nice story

Thank you. Police are great….but sometimes….not so great!

That John Smith is so clever having properties at two similar addresses one of which is rented out to another John Smith. I bet this is not the first time he and his “wife” have killed somebody.
Nicely written.

He’s lucky they listened to his story! Could have ended a lot worse.

True, and sometimes it does turn out worse.

Happens every time to those “John Sniths.” They are always getting the police confused. Funny story but sad in a way because it happens all too often. 🙂

Yes, and we probably don’t hear about all the times that it does happen!

My hubby was pulled over once…falsely.
Scary!
Last Dragon piece is here:

Dragon also has another conclusion entitled: Abracadabra (11.10)
I also started a page at my fiction place for ‘Rumor’s Dragon’
